• Note. Commodore in the Continental Navy and afterwards in the Regular Navy of Virginia
Commissioned Colonel of Orange Co., Virginia Militia, July 18, 1755 by Gov. Dinwiddie, with whom he served in the French & Indian wars twenty years before
Trained companies for the Revolutionary War (no proof of his rank in the war)

He gave ten sons to the Colonial army and navy: Charles, Francis, Reuben, William, James, Jonathan, Edmund, Richard, John, Benjamin, seven of which were officers.

He was born and died in Orange County, Virginia. His home was Midland, later called Yatton.

• Note. George was a clerk of Orange Co.,Va. 1750-1772. Colonel of Orange Co.,1755. Burgess,1748-1758; member of Orange County Committee,1774, and of the Virginia Convention, 1775.
