Commissioned Colonel of Orange Co., Virginia Militia, July 18, 1755 by Gov. Dinwiddie, with whom he served in the French & Indian wars twenty years before
Trained companies for the Revolutionary War (no proof of his rank in the war)
He gave ten sons to the Colonial army and navy: Charles, Francis, Reuben, William, James, Jonathan, Edmund, Richard, John, Benjamin, seven of which were officers.

• Note. George was a clerk of Orange Co.,Va. 1750-1772. Colonel of Orange Co.,1755. Burgess,1748-1758; member of Orange County Committee,1774, and of the Virginia Convention, 1775.
George married Sarah Lucy Taliaferro, daughter of Charles Taliaferro and Lucy Walker, in 1767 in Rapidan, Orange Co., VA. (Sarah Lucy Taliaferro was born on 8 Oct 1727 in Virginia and died on 17 Jan 1784.)
George next married Rachel Gibson on 20 Feb 1738. (Rachel Gibson was born on 4 May 1717 and died on 19 Feb 1761.)
