• Headstone. [truncated Greek column about 9 feet tall. On the west side of the monument appears:] John J. BLAIR/ born at Waxhaws, South Carolina, 12 April 1793,/ died 13 June 1844; aged 52 years, 2 months & 1 day. [on the north side of the monument appears:] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." [on the south side of the monument:] "Honorable and upright in his dealings with others, faithful and concientious in the discharge of his public and private duties, as a merchant distinguished for his intelligence, promptitude and unwavering integrity. As a friend, kind, sincere and affable. Humble and exemplary as a Christian. He stood high in the well-merited confidence and esteem of his fellow man. A member of the Presbyterian church in Mobile in his life. He adorned the profession he had made and died in the glorious triumph of a Christian's faith."
