• Title: Laird of the Craig: Ayrshire, Scotland. Laird is a Scottish term for landowner, especially a large estate. It came to existance during the 14th century as variant of the word Lord. Very few people actually owned land during that period. Most land was owned by Royalty and worked by the serf's (commoners).
