General Notes:
JAMES KING died a very young adult leaving two young daughters. His wife SUSANNAH (CHICK) KING was pregnant with their third child at the time he made his will. Estate and deed records show that their later born son was JAMES KING. There is no later mention of SUSANNAH (CHICK) KING, the widow of JAMES. It is likely she died as well. This left the junior JAMES KING to be raised by his grandparents MARY (CASON) KING (now MARY COLLINS) and WILLIAM CHICK and his wife SUSANNAH (________) CHICK. 13 Jul 1773 WILLIAM COLLINS sold to JAMES KING 300 acres on east branch of Great Straitstone on west side of Allen=s Mountain for 30,. Witnessed by EDMUND KING, HERMON KING and JOEL SHORT. Recorded on 22 July, 1773. Description: . Pittsylvania County, Virginia Deed Book 3, Page 317. Lucille C. Payne and Neil G. Payne, Pittsylvania County, Virginia Deed Books 1, 2 and 3, page 155. Note: JAMES KING died testate in 1776 shortly after acquiring this land. He named his stepfather WILLIAM COLLINS as one of the Executors. His father in law WILLIAM CHICK served as guardian of his children. The estate acquired an additional 80 acres for JAMES KING in 1787.
